After mostly sunny days, we woke up to a rainy day in the colorful seaside town of Tobermory, which was designed by Thomas Telford in 1788. Our morning started with a series of walks. The first option was a geology walk to the Tobermory lighthouse with local geologist Seamus. Our photo instructor, Anna, also led a photo walk around the waterfront. Next on the itinerary was a tour of the Tobermory Distillery followed by a tasting. There was a mix of rain and sun throughout the day.
After lunch, we set sail for the Knoydart Peninsula and the community of Inverie, a locally owned commune that's only accessible by boat (or a seventeen-mile walk from Kinlochourn). We ventured out for two walks upon arrival. The long hike traveled through the forest and nature reserve for about 3.1 miles, while the shorter walk hugged the edges of Loch Nevis. After dinner, Inverie resident Jackie Robertson hosted a talk about their community then invited us all for a drink at the Old Forge Pub. The pub just opened this week after a renovation, and is the most remote pub on mainland U.K.
