Today aboard National Geographic Orion, we visited the island of Ua Huka in the Marquesas Islands. We started the day with visits to Hane where guests joined one of several excursions including birding, hiking, or a town tour. Those on the birding tour were treated to sights of several endemic birds, including the Iphis monarch and the stunning ultramarine lorikeet, both of which are only found on Ua Huka.
In the afternoon, guests boarded Zodiacs for a tour of two bird islands off the southwest of Ua Huka. Here they saw tens of thousands of sooty terns as well as manta rays circling in the water.
