Kia Ora and Greetings.

Welcome to New Zealand’s Stewart Island!

Captain Alex and his bridge team gracefully sailed National Geographic Orion close to the Island of Ulva. We anchored off the shores of one of New Zealand’s most revered natural forests and bird sanctuaries.

Our expedition leader Leah Eaton’s plan for our guests today was to have our avid travellers walk through this extremely pristine forest and take in the beauty of the flora and fauna of Ulva Island. Endemic birds, trees and ferns, sandy beaches, manicured gravel pathways, and amazing local guides made for a very enjoyable and interesting visit.

Once back on the ship, guests were presented with a lavish lunch prepared by Chef Rannie and his team and served by Maître d’ Eric Tenorio and his team, as our ship repositioned into Oban Bay.

Again, guests were shuttled on our trusty Zodiacs, but this time to enjoy the splendors of Oban town. It was an opportunity to walk at one’s own leisure through this little town, visiting the pub, the museum, the wool store, the coffee shop, and of course, just plain lazing on the beach.

We enjoyed the sun and cheer of a great Sunday afternoon.
