This was our first full day in the Peruvian Upper Amazon! We were eager to go out and explore, and at 6am we were in our skiffs looking for wildlife in Yanallaquillo Creek. Terns, sloths, pink river dolphins, and many other species were found. We could have stayed there all day, but breakfast awaited back on board.
After breakfast, we got the chance to take a walk under the canopy in a reserve called Amazon Natural Park. Fungi such as cordyceps, the feared bullet ant, and other microfauna amazed us, but just being under the canopy of the enormous trees was enough of an experience.
In the afternoon our skiffs took us to the Yanayacu/Pucate River where we decided to swim. Why not take a dip in the piraña infested waters, right? Afterward, we looked for more wildlife, like saki monkeys and many species of birds.
