Today National Geographic Endeavour II took us to the iconic Bartolome Island, offering a blend of unique geological formations, diverse wildlife, and a glimpse into the geological history of the Galapagos. We went for an early hike to the summit that offered panoramic views of the iconic Pinnacle Rock and the surrounding landscape. We enjoyed the crystalline waters surrounding Pinnacle Rock which provided a stunning underwater world teeming with marine life. Galapagos penguins and sea turtles were among the highlights.
In the afternoon we relocated the ship to Chinese hat, named for its distinct shape resembling a traditional Chinese hat. This islet showcases the archipelago's volcanic origin. The small, cone-shaped island showcased a variety of volcanic features, including lava tubes and fissures. Brown pelicans, marine iguanas, and Sally lightfoot crabs welcomed us as we explored the coastline. As we sailed back to our vessel, passengers reflected on the significance of these sites in both natural history and the ongoing conservation story of the Galapagos Islands.
