This morning, we started our exploration by searching for marine mammals and seabirds from National Geographic Islander II. We were very lucky because we encountered many seabirds and a pod of bottlenose dolphins. We also enjoyed seeing many shield volcanos. This area is still very young, and the volcanos have not eroded as in the central and easternmost part of the archipelago.
This part of the archipelago has the densest population of marine iguanas, Pacific green sea turtles, Galapagos penguins, and the whole population of Galapagos flightless cormorants. This was not the only reason we came all the way here, though. This location has an abundance of wildlife that is possible to see from the ship and by hiking or taking tours in Zodiacs or the glass-bottom boat.
