For our next stop, we visited several spots on Floreana Island. This old island is in the south of the archipelago. We started in Post Office Bay. We enjoyed an early morning kayak and made a short landing to visit the famous post office barrel, the site of many early sailors’ stories and a historic spot in the Galapagos. We continued the tradition of hand delivering mail started by whalers in the 1800s that continues today.

In the late morning, we had a wonderful snorkel at Champion Islet, an eroded cone in the pathway of ocean currents. The site is an oasis for marine life, which we enjoyed observing. We concluded our day with a wonderful walk over Cormorant Point. This peninsula on the north side of the island is home to a great diversity of wildlife, from pink flamingos to an active herd of green turtles.
