We began our exploration of the old Venetian city of Hvar early in the morning. The city is renowned for its lavender cultivations and is home to the second-largest arsenal of the powerful sea empire of Venice. Both the “Arsenale” and the small, beautiful theatre on the upper floor housed two art exhibitions that captured our attention. At the other end of the old town, the Saint Francis Church and Monastery houses a beautiful painting of the Last Supper. This artwork was created by an unknown artist who sought refuge in the monastery. Those amongst us eager for a longer walk decided to participate in the high point challenge, climbing to the fort that overlooks the city and offers a beautiful view of the bay in Hvar.
After lunch, the strong wind from the north filled the sails of the ship, and we enjoyed the thrill of flying over the waves with no other noise other than the sound of the water splashing against the keel of the ship. After several afternoon presentations, the day ended with the Big Fish Dinner, with a huge yellow fin tuna as main attraction and samplings of local lavender liqueur.
