Today, our journey took us through the charming streets of Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital, a city where history and modernity harmonize seamlessly. We began our exploration in the heart of the Old Town, where the Ljubljanica River winds through picturesque bridges and colorful baroque buildings, with Ljubljana Castle, perched atop a hill as the background. We also wandered through the lively market square and admired the iconic Triple Bridge. There is a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau architecture all within a vibrant pedestrian historic town.
In the afternoon, some ventured to Predjama Castle, a marvel of medieval engineering set within a towering cliff face. This castle, with its dramatic location, tells tales of sieges, secret tunnels, and the legendary knight Erazem Lueger. The castle's hidden passageways, carved deep into the rock, and its strategic position made it nearly impregnable.
Piran, the harbor in which we are anchored today, shows examples of Venetian Renaissance architecture; it was another option for the afternoon. Once on board, our captain introduced her team of officers, the heart and soul of the incredibly beautiful Sea Cloud II.
